Kagame’s assassin arrested in Uganda

A key intelligence operative of Rwandan President Paul Kagame who has been working in the United Kingdom has been arrested by Ugandan intelligence.
According to Umuvugizi, a local Kinyarwanda newspaper, Leyon Amigo Rubagumya was arrested on May 29 ostensibly for armed robbery, but investigations indicate he has been held for different reasons altogether.
Information indicates that Rubagumya alias Majuju is a top intelligence officer of the Rwanda government, suspected to have compromised the security of top Ugandan government officials and political refugees from Rwanda.
The Razor in March reported the presence in Uganda of Rwandan assassins who are in the country to bump off Rwandan dissidents opposed to and are critical of the Kagame regime.
According to sources, these assassins have been involved in a number of espionage activities in the region, most especially in Uganda where they intended to cause insecurity during the February general election.
It is also said that the operatives were moving around with lots of money and different passports as a decoy – just in case they were arrested – so as not to implicate the Rwandan government. And, according to Umuvugizi, Majuju, who is reportedly being held incommunicado by Ugandan intelligence, was found with three passports of Rwanda, Uganda and the UK, all bearing different names. He was also reportedly found with £100,000 sterling and a gun.
Umuvugizi states Majuju also had some other money stashed away in the UK and that on leaving London in April he bought a Range Rover, threw a party for friends and told them he was going back home, to Rwanda. However, it is not clear how he ended up in Uganda, but sources indicate he was en route to the USA, where he was reportedly going for other assignments. The paper further indicates that Majuju was one of the people who used to receive Kagame’s top intelligence chief, Col Dr Ndahiro Emmanuel, and was always giving him reports about Rwandans in the UK opposed to Kagame’s regime, many of whom confided in him unsuspectingly. Rubagumya was also in touch with other top Kagame security officers in Kigali and asked a group of young men to gather information in the UK and Belgium, Umuvugizi adds. The information comes in the wake of suspicion against another Rwandan in the UK, suspected of espionage. Another publication, Mugigzi, reports that Kigali is trying to have Majuju released. But our efforts to contact the relevant authorities in both Uganda and Rwanda were fruitless.
