Victoire Ingabire, Chairperson of FDU-Inkingi.With the trial of Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza aproaching, the Rwandan civil society in Belgium is organizing in Brussels this Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from noon to 2 pm, a human chain in front of the Rwandan Embassy.

Ms. Victoire Ingabire returned to Rwanda to register her political party, the FDU-Inkingi (United Democratic Forces) and participate in the presidential elections of August 9th 2010. She was ultimately barred from participating in the elections and was arrested.
For the Rwandan civil society, her arrest is not acceptable. It is another evidence of the dictatorship that exists in Rwanda. Indeed, Ms. Victoire Ingabire is imprisoned with many other political opponents.

The Rwandan civil society in Belgium, coordinated by the SOCIRWA (Rwandan Civil Society) and CLIIR (Centre for the Struggle Against Impunity and Injustice in Rwanda), calls upon the people in Belgium to come out and support this Iron Lady in her struggle for peace and Democracy for all Rwandans. It also is an opportunity for FDU members and supporters to show support for their leader.

The Rwandan civil society in Belgium hopes that such a mobilization will challenge the government in Kigali and western countries in particular with regard to conditioning their aid on indicators of democratization in Rwanda.
